Is my bearded dragon going to lay eggs?
My female is about 3 weeks gravid. She started digging a little in her tank so I decided to make her lay box. It is a 20 gallon tank. Half of it is filled with topsoil and Perlite. The other half has very little sand (for her comfort). The half with the hill of soil is covered with a blanket for her privacy. I have a basking light on the other side. I am thinking that she will lay within this week.
I feel horrible though because she is just running back and forth but NOT digging! Why? Shouldn’t she start digging? She is just laying on the higher part of the soil. I started a hole for her but she hasn’t even payed any attention to it. How long should she stay in the box? All week? She’s really dirty so I don’t want to transfer her back and forth to her regular tank. Should I just ignore her? Should I just stop worrying and leave her alone? How long until she starts digging?

Should the soil be packed down or loose?

Mine kinda did the same thing but I put her back into her regular tank until she started digging again and then transferred her again. I did this a couple of times and she finally decided to lay. I did pack the perlite into a small mound and started a hole for her. I continued to place her at the hole each time she started to dig and transfer. Just watch her for signs and go with your gut feeling. The lay box sounds good.
