Bearded dragon changing color?

im watching 2 bearded dragons 4 the summer, and im kinda sure one is a male cuz he gets really territorial around the other one and does this weird head bob thing. But when what seems to be every other day, he changes from a white/yellowish color, to a darker brownish color and his “Beard” turns almost black. Can anyone tell me what is going on? I think its some kind of territory thing, but im not sure.

If it mature you can see if it is a male very easy. There will be 2 lines of bumps (spurs) along the lower chest and stomach.

As for the color changes the black throats are why they call them “Bearded”. The color changes can be caused from either temperature stimuli or aggression. Often if the changes are due to being in an aggressive state it will also puff out it’s beard making it’s spikes raise also. As if it were saying “look at me I’m big and have mean spikes to stab you with” Of course it can’t do much with the spikes, but they look cool. I have noticed male beardies that are trying to breed do this to me when I am looking into the tank. I don’t know if he is protecting his ladies or just wanting some privacy.

The hand waving is just a way for them to say “Hi”. A friend of mine told me that when one of his lady’s eggs hatched she would get up on a stick facing her baby’s tank and wave to them. Mine, Lumpy, use to wave to me all the time.
