Breeding Bearded Dragon Incubator

Female bearded dragen started laying eggs for first time – fertile or not?

My female bearded dragon started laying eggs this morning, although her mate died about 4 weeks ago. She has been burrowing for about 2 weeks, but did not like the feel of sand nor potting soil (outside her aquarium or inside – where I built a private sand box corner). 3 of her 4 eggs so far look yellowish. Can these be infertile eggs? All of them? I’m not into breeding, but if these eggs are fertile, I want to give them a good start! Please pass along any advice (make or buy incubator, etc.) Thanks!

Infertile eggs are yellow while fertile ones have a denser white colour and leathery look. There can be a mix of both in a clutch. Female beardeds can store sperm so it is quite possible for you to have some fertile eggs. You are unlikely to see any blood vessels or spots from candling until they have incubated a couple days. This site can guide you through the rest.

The eggs need to not dry out before you get set-up. Keep them in the same upright position that you found them and transfer them into some damp vermiculite or plain potting soil if that is what you have on hand. Make an indentation with your thumb and place the egg in, replacing the substrate so the egg is about half buried.
