Breeding Bearded Dragons?
Hey I’m looking at breeding some bearded dragon and I need all the help I can get. So I have an incubator so can you tell me what I need to put in with the bearded dragons like somthing for them to lay there eggs in. and tell me what I need to do from spotting the eggs too them hatching. (and I mean everything) I really want this to work
Thanks
o.k so you’re ready to breed your Bearded dragons, If mating behavior has started then the conditions are right for breeding to occur, This is usually when the temp decreases by 5 degrees or so, this conditions your female for mating. If she’s ready she’ll sort of wave at the male and bob her head.
The male should become darker in color as a precursor to mating.
You’ll need to put an extra hide in the vivarium in the cool end.this will need a deep layer of substrate. If she has mated then the male should be removed!
The female will Bury the eggs in this hide if mating has been successful, you’ll notice her in there more often.
Your female will be gravid for anywhere between a month to six weeks.
now is the time to remove her from the viv and check to see if there are any eggs there! use surgical gloves so as not to transfer any bacteria onto the eggs.
If they are there, then you’re in business. if not place everything back as it was and wait!
The eggs are best in an incubator but I have successfully eft them in the vivarium(if conditions are right) and let the female get on with doing what nature intended, she’ll thermo-regulate the eggs herself, but as I said before you will get a higher hatch rate with the incubator.
Incubation takes around 60-80 days at about 85 degrees and they need to be kept moist but not wet. leave the new hatchlings in the incubator for 24 hours so they can absorb their yolk sack before removing them(They wont all hatch at the same time, it may be as much as 5 days between hatchlings emerging).
good luck buddy and I hope this helps
